The Furry Book (updated August 8, 2018)

I have about 50,000 words under my belt, but have a long way to go on the book. I am hoping to really hunker down on the writing this and next months. Starting to collect photos. All the interviews are done and transcribed. So, making progress....

The Furry Book: The Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of the Furry Fandom (expected publication date: 2017) will be a book that aims to cover all the bases of the furry fandom. Originally called "Furries Explained," I have changed the title so it sounds less apologetic. The goal here is to cover all the bases of the diverse fandom; that is, the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of furry. The book will also include some "how-to" information and directories, a glossary, and an index.

The book is aimed at people who are new to the fandom, interested in the fandom, parents and family of the fandom, and even those who have been involved for a while but would just like to read more.

BTW, this book is being written not only by a furry, but by someone who is a writing, editing, and publishing professional (you can see some of my books on Amazon here). I have been in publishing since 1989, so this will not be the work of an amateur.

Stay tuned for more information. You may contact me here if you have questions or want to learn more.

And thanks to Charleston Rat for his work on the cover!

UPDATE (September 13, 2015)

You ever start a project and, the more you dig, the more complicated it gets? That's how this is going. I keep finding more and more information! Recently, and interview with Fred Patten turned up more stuff I didn't know. Here's something cool! I found out that there is an archive of old furry comic books etc. at UC Riverside. How fortuitous that I moved to within an hour's drive of UCR just a couple years ago! This is kismet that I work on this book! It's a sign from the furry gods <g>

UPDATE (August 31, 2015)

Interviews continue, research continues. To be more realistic and not rush myself, I've moved the publication date to 2016.

UPDATE (January 19, 2015)

I'm conducting interviews. Seeking furries to talk with me about the following topics:
  • Puppetry
  • Therians
  • Otherkin
  • Bronies
  • The business of furry art
  • Fursuit design and creation
  • Mascots
  • Charity work
  • Running a furcon

Check out the latest interviews. Open to suggestions for other topics, too! If interested, please contact me. Thanks!

UPDATE (November 27, 2014)

Just learned that Joe Strike has written a book called Furry Nation. I'm trying to find a copy as his website was down as of today, Thanksgiving. If it already covers all the bases, I might not do my book; however, I believe that his is a history of the fandom. While I would be addressing the history and current state of the fandom, I see The Furry Book as also being a guide. So, we'll see....
